What to Expect at a Routine Dental Exam in Yuma

dental examPeople know dental exams are important, but they face plenty of roadblocks.

CDC statistics show that at least 34% of adults and 15% of children didn’t see a dentist last year.

For many Americans, financial reasons hold them back. For others, they’re afraid or embarrassed.

At Picacho Family Dental, we’ll do everything possible to keep you comfortable and reduce fears during your visit – starting by explaining exactly what you can expect during your dental exam.

What Happens at a Dental Exam in Yuma?

One of our friendly front desk specialists like Alaysia or Mary will make you feel comfortable, answer any questions, and escort you to your exam room.

Now it’s time to meet your hygienist.

Jazmin or McKenzie will ask you some questions about your medical history, anxieties, and any dental symptoms. This is the time to get vocal about any fears – such as previous dental horror stories or problems getting numb. We want to help!

Next, your hygienist will give your teeth a thorough cleaning, floss, and a shiny polish. The hygienist will also use a mirror and pick to look for any problems like cavities.

Time for x-rays. Don’t worry, today’s digital x-rays emit 80% less radiation.

Then, you have the dentist exam. Dr. Jason Lemmon or Dr. Allegra Lichauco Hopkins will review the hygienist’s findings, x-rays, and carry out their own exam to look for oral cancer, teeth grinding, bone loss, cavities, and any other abnormalities.

Finally, your dentist will let you know about any problems, make recommendations, and answer any questions you have. You’ll schedule a follow-up appointment afterwards and go over the details of your preferred payment plan.
