Dental Cleaning, Exams, and X-rays: Understanding Your Visit to Picacho Family Dental

A cleaning procedure in a dentist’s office is more in depth than your oral routine at home. It starts with a simple exam. First, your hygienist will check to see if there is are serious issues happening inside your mouth.

Your hygienist will then work on removing plaque and tartar build-up around your teeth and gums – doing an in-depth brushing and flossing with special tools – leaving your mouth feeling thoroughly cleaned. The cleaning segment ends with a fluoride treatment that coats tooth enamel and helps prevent any cavities in between visits.

Following your cleaning, you will usually go through a series of x-rays which document the placement of your teeth in your gums. These x-rays can tell the dentist if there is anything concerning they need to check into. Your dentist will then complete a thorough exam in your mouth.

After the exam, your dentist will inform you if you need to schedule a new appointment to fix any issues and give you pointers on your next steps in oral health.

That completes your visit.
